mart.jpgMARTIN O'Neill says he is keeping an open mind on the successor to Gareth Barry as Villa skipper next season.

Nigel Reo-Coker and Martin Laursen are strong favourites for the honour but the Villa boss says there is no shortage of candidates.

Villa will finally wrap up the signing of Chelsea's Steve Sidwell some time today.

And the £4.5million midfielder could have an outside chance of pipping Reo-Coker and Laursen to the role, with O'Neill revealing there are a number of players in t he frame.

"There are a few people on the list and Martin Laursen would certainly be one of the names I'd be thinking about,'' he said when asked directly about the Dane's chances.

"He was terrific last season. There are a number of people who would want it but there are a number of people who are on my list who might not want it. I haven't discussed it yet."
