Arsene Wenger interested in Gareth Barry
ARSENE Wenger has indicated that he is interested in stepping up his interest in Gareth Barry but he may be priced out of a move for the England international, whose dream move to Liverpool is in serious doubt.
Martin O'Neill has fought long and hard to keep Barry and has stuck rigidly to his £18million valuation.
That figure is likely to scupper any potential move to The Emirates at a time when Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is believed, against his wish, to be scouring the market for alternative targets.
Wenger is keen to bring in a central midfielder after seeing Mathieu Flamini, Alexander Hleb and Gilberto Silva all depart in the last three months, .
Asked about Barry, Wenger said: "There is always interest. I cannot tell you much more. He's one of the players we follow.
"I find Barry a good player. The problems with players who are 27, 28, is that you pay big money but you get nothing back, no resale."
