Martin Laursen to keep the Aston Villa captaincy
MARTIN Laursen is set to keep the Villa captaincy for good.
Martin O'Neill has been impressed with the Dane's leadership qualities and is happy to see him continue as skipper.
Laursen led the side out against Manchester City after a summer where both he and Nigel Reo-Coker have taken the honour.
There had been speculation all summer as to who would get the nod.
Reo-Coker captained Villa last season at Liverpool in the one game missed by regular skipper Gareth Barry.
But Laursen will now lead out the side at Stoke City on Saturday and beyond.
O'Neill said: "Martin is the captain here.
''I didn't say it officially to him, but he is the captain of the side at the moment and I wouldn't see that changing.
"Laursen is Laursen, he leads by example. I'm not saying he is running around shouting all over the place but neither did Gareth.''
Laursen came close to giving up the game through injury before returning to play an ever-present season for Villa last campaign.
O'Neill added: "He could have given the game up and lesser people may well have done."

Martin Laursen is captain material and has qualities which Barry could only dream of. His appointment is one of the few positives to come out of this whole Barry mess.
Martin laursen has the hunger and the leadership skills to be a great captin for us, yes a nice move.
