If you had the choice would you take 4th place or win the FA Cup?

By Howard JP Hodgson on Sep 30, 08 05:40 PM in Fans

If Villa keep up their wonderful start to the season and do remain in strong contention to finish 4th in the Premier League would you, given the choice take the 4th place on offer and the riches of Champions league qualification or would you rather see the club win it's first trophy since 1996 and first FA Cup since 1957!?

It's a wonderful choice to have and I am the first to admit we are a million miles from either at the moment but if it came to it I would have to say 4th place and with it a potential ticket to making the club great for the long term.

Here's hoping we have such a wonderful dilemma.... We could always do both! Now I really am getting carried away!

Hmm a chance to qualify for Champions League the following year. Hmm, is this a joke.

No its not a joke. Yes it's easy to say 4th place but what if we don't make through qualifying round of Champions League? There is no trophy in the cabinet. We finished 4th under Little in 1996. We also won the League Cup. Everyone remember's we won the trophy. I bet not that many remember we finished 4th that season.

I see where you're coming from and it's a good question.

If an eighth FA cup was good enough to retake the reord for wins, I'd take that.
But in the greedy, money dominated way the game has gone, the CL is the only place to be. And displacing one of the big four would be better for the game, IMO.

i would definately take the fa cup, its a trophy in the cabinet and a great occasion for the fans. push on up to 4th next season.

I would take 4th spot. Yes, a trophy in the cabinet would be nice but the money/riches the UCL would bring will be huge. Also, if we want to keep a certain Mr Gareth Barry, then we will need to finish in the top 4. Finishing in the top 4 will also help attract the best players in the world.

Without a doubt, 4th spot for the champions league!!

Who knows, maybe we will take both :)

Would I take 4th spot and a possible back door route into one of the most overrated competitions or an actual meaningful trophy ?

No brainer!

An 8th cup please
