Earl Barrett - the League Two Randy Lerner?

By Ross Hawkes on Oct 9, 08 07:52 AM in Journalists

It seems one time Aston Villa defender Earl Barrett is looking to follow the example of David Beckham.

The England man has recently revealed that he wants to own a club after he hangs up his boots.

But it seems Barrett is hoping to beat Becks to the punch.

Speculation has been rife ever since the ex-Villa full-back appeared in the stands at a recent Port Vale game.

It was initially thought Barrett was being lined up to replace now removed Vale boss Lee Sinnott at the helm. But following the internal appointment of Dean Glover as manager the rumour mill is now suggesting the one-time Oldham man has more interest in the director's box than the dugout.

Buying a club might seem like a dream, but should he invest at Vale Park, Barrett will inherit a club in near turmoil.

Slumped towards the wrong end of League Two amid a cloud of supporter unrest and instability following rumours of a boardroom split over the decision to replace Sinnott with Glover, Port Vale will be know easy ship to turn around.

I hope you know what you're doing, Earl...
