Why Curtis Davies deserves credit - not criticism

Curtis Davies must shoulder his fair share of the responsibility for Aston Villa's defensive wobbles since the loss of Martin Laursen.
But Davies deserves credit rather than criticism for the way he has soldiered on without complaining about his injury worries so far this season.
The former West Brom skipper is set to put Villa's needs before his own again this afternoon by continuing to play through the pain barrier.
Because of his selfless commitment to the claret and blue cause he now faces the potential prospect of surgery on his dislocated shoulder.
And the timing could not be much worse for the defender who has experienced more body-popping than Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity in recent weeks.
Davies could be forced to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines when he should be competing with Carlos Cuellar to partner Villa's new central defender Richard Dunne.
Not only that, but the latest setback comes just as he is beginning to recapture the former made him a £10 million defender.
His shoulder problem shouldn't excuse below-par performances like the Wigan debacle, but it makes displays like last week's at Liverpool all the more impressive.
